The Marshall girls bowling team traveled to Char-Lanes in Charlotte on Thursday afternoon to take on the Eaton Rapids Greyhounds. Eaton Rapids was shorthanded with only three bowlers, but Marshall still had to take care of their business. In game one of singles, Marshall had a score of 740 led by freshman Olivia Stone with a 195. Junior Summer Stone had a 161 and senior captain Ember Boughton turned in a 162. With the victory secure, the Redhawks moved into the Baker portion. Rolling games of 137 and 131, the sweep was complete. Marshall will now move into the holidays after a strong start to the season. The Marshall varsity girls basketball team faced their toughest competition of the season so far Tuesday night against a solid team from Mason. “We knew Mason was going to play tough pressure, in your face defense and that’s exactly what they did. We started off rough going down 0-8 in the first few minutes. We then clawed our way back and continued to fight, trailing by 4 at half. At halftime we talked about controlling the controllables and doing all of the little things well. We were able to make some plays in the second half and were lead by some huge free throws from Emily in the fourth quarter. Tonight we battled a very tough Mason team down to the wire. Unfortunately, the 2nd quarter we didn't defend as well as we have been of late and they made us pay...as good teams do. I was proud of our 2nd half effort as we had cut their 14pt lead down to 6 several times with chances to get closer but we just couldn't hit the timely shots late to put more game pressure on them. Good learning experience. Next up we are at Hastings on Thursday night. Overall: 5-1

Boys Varsity SoccerMarshall Varsity Boys Soccer With Tough Loss to Plainwell
Boys Varsity SoccerMarshall hosted Plainwell for a boys soccer match Saturday afternoon at Marshall High School and was defeated by the Trojans by a 2-0 score. A strong Plainwell team, regional finalist last fall and currently with only one loss on the season, was too much in the end for Marshall, but Marshall fought gamely. In a well-played first half, Marshall and Plainwell traded chances and while Plainwell found the net twice to take a 2-0 lead into halftime, the margin was razor thin as Marshall created some very quality chances and played some very effective attractive soccer. In the second half, Marshall seemed to run out of gas a little bit. The 3rd game of the week and the heavy emotional investment in Thursday, I-8 Conference win at Hastings, seemed to take their toll. Marshall didn't have the same energy in the half and Plainwell certainly carried more of the play throughout the 2nd half. Although chances were fewer and further between for M

Boys Varsity SoccerThe Marshall Boys Soccer team traveled to Hastings yesterday for an I-8 Conference matchup. Marshall prevailed by a 3-2 score to move to 3-0-0 in league play and remain in position to challenge for a league title. Marshall played well and, despite a few quality scoring chances, was unable to find the net in the opening half. The teams went to halftime tied at 0-0. After the scoreless first half, the second half was an offensive explosion. Marshall played some of their best soccer of the year in the second half putting together some very fluent attacking combinations. The improved play paid off when Carson Clapper won a ball in the Marshall defensive half and played a square pass to Jaxon Weitting. Weitting maneuvered around two Hastings defenders to get space out wide and delivered a ball up the wing and behind the Hastings defense to Ronnie Gill. Gill collected the ball, cut inside the Hastings centerback and wrong-footed th

Boys Varsity SoccerThe Marshall Boys Soccer Team hosted Jackson Northwest (NW) in an I-8 Conference Match-up Tuesday evening at Marshall High School. Marshall came away 2-0 winners to maintain a perfect start to the league season. Marshall struck early with 2 goals in the opening 10 minutes. Inside of a minute, Ivan Egnatuk won a tackle deep inside the NW half. The ball squirted to Ronnie Gill at the top of the box. Gill wiggled through 2 NW defenders and laid an inviting ball off to Rowdy Joseph about 15 yards from goal. Joseph gladly accepted the invite and steered the ball into the back of the net to give Marshall an early 1-0 lead. Marshall built upon that lead when Ben Baker connected a pass to Joseph near the top of the NW box. Joseph scooped a ball over the NW backline and into the path of the on-rushing Ivan Egnatuk. Egnatuk lunged to meet the ball in the air and successfully connected with the ball, guiding the ball into th

Boys Varsity SoccerMarshall traveled to Parma this evening for the opening I-8 Conference match of the year and came away with a hard fought, but well deserved, 2-1 victory. After finishing the weekend with a tie against Mason (ranked #7 in D2 in the state of Michigan), Marshall was hoping to really build some momentum. Early in the match, Marshall may have been a little too amped up. Despite the beginnings of some very promising plays, Marshall was plagued by poor unforced turnovers and blown defensive assignments. One of those turnovers resulted in the opening goal. After a Marshall turnover, the Western forward unleashed a 25 yard thunderbolt that left Marshall goalkeeper, John Meyer, with no chance. So, early in the match, Marshall was 1-0 down even though the goal was very much against the run of play. The goal seemed to help Marshall settle in though as the rest of the half featured much sharper play from the Redhawks. They created n
