Redhawks Have Record Setting Day at Regionals

The MHS track teams had an amazing day at the Regional championship at Mason, May 17th.  The day began with the 3200 Meter Relay team of Jake Lyon, George McClure, Tyler Tucker and Perry Robson winning in 8:08.63.  It was the fourth time the quartet has lowered the school record.  They are seeded 5th heading into the State finals.
Then it was Jake’s time to shine as an individual, winning the long jump in a personal record (PR) 21′ 5 1/2″.  He is seeded 4th going into the finals. Shortly after Jake’s jump, Jake Luciani cleared 6′ 2″ in the high jump to clinch 2nd place and punch his ticket to the finals.  He is seeded 6th.  Both are past All State performers in these events.
As the final running events began, Olaide Olapade clinched her second straight trip to the State Meet with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Meter Dash.  Olaide has lowered her school record in the 100 to 12.54 this season, and will be running at Indiana Tech next year.
Perry Robson was the next Redhawk to earn a trip to the finals as an individual with a runner-up finish in the 800 Meter Run.  Tyler Tucker earned the 3rd place medal.  And in the final race of the night, the 1600 Relay Team of McClure, Luciani, Robson and Lyon ran a blazing 3:27.79 to win the event, and narrowly miss another school record.  Jake ran a blistering 49.8 to anchor the team which heads to the finals with a fourth place ranking.
The Redhawk distance runners had a great night also.  The four 1600 Meter runners (Maliyah Gore, Meagan Schoepke, Conner McPartlin, Carson Tucker) all ran PR’s, lowering their times by an average of 12 seconds.  Brett Carlisle ran the fastest 3200 Meter race by a Marshall athlete in over 20 years, hitting the line in 3rd with a PR of 9:55.41.  Unfortunately, Brett missed the qualifying time by two seconds.  Adam Foreman (10:16.15), Maliyah Gore (4th in 12:22.62), and Abby St. John (12:45.91) all ran PR’s as well.
Also scoring points for the Redhawks were Joh’Nay Gamble (100), Laraya Warnsley (800), the 800 Relay team (Joh’Nay, Zemiah White, Laraya, Olaide), Kesiena Toweh (Long Jump), Reagan Konkle (300 Hurdles), Linc Reincke (Discus), Ben Culp (PV), and the 400 Relay team (Carl Bates, Parker Gilbertson, Avery Duncan, Josh Haefele).
Good luck at the State Finals in Zeeland on June 1st!
