Girls Varsity Softball · Marshall Varsity Softball sweeps Pennfield!!!

GAME 1: On Thursday, Marshall outlasted Pennfield in 8 innings.  With Marshall up 9-2 in the 6th, Pennfield was able to rally and tie the game.  No score in the 7th inning meant we were headed to the International tiebreaker.  Marshall was able to put up 4 runs in the top of the 8th  inning and lead 13-9.  In the bottom of the 8th Pennfield again rallied to score 3 more before lightning caused an hour delay.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd and two outs, Amanda DeWitt was able to induce a ground ball back to her and secure the win 13-12.  Kaylee Gwin started on the mound and went 5 1/3 innings giving up 3 ER, walking 4 and striking out 7.  Amanda DeWitt got the win in relief going 2 2/3 innings, 1 ER and 1 walk.  At the plate Brenna Hayes, Gwin and Izzy Swan each had 2 hits while Gwin collected 4 RBIs.

GAME 2:  On Friday, Marshall returned to Pennfield to finish the game that had been called the day before due to rain with Marshall up 1-0 on Izzy Franks lead off home-run to center.  Marshall and Pennfield went back and forth most of the game but with Marshall down 8-5 in the 6th inning, we were able to scratch 2 runs across to pull within 1 going to the 7th inning.  With Courtney Fuller on 3rd base and 2 outs in the 7th, Amanda DeWitt singled to tie the game at 8 and once again we went to extra innings.  Both teams were scoreless in the 8th.  In the 9th, Preslee Riddle doubled and scored Fuller, then Maddie Spottek singled to score Riddle and give Marshall a 10-8 lead.  Sierra Rupp struck out 2 batters to start the 9th and then induced a ground ball to Gwin at 2nd base to give Marshall the sweep.  Rupp pitched 9 innings, 6 ER, 6 BB and 11 strikeouts.  Franks 3hits (1HR) 2 RBIs, DeWitt 2 hits 2 RBIs, Hayes 2 hits, Fuller 2 hits and Riddle 2 hits

Marshall is 14-9 (9-3 in the I8)
