The game at Mason was scoreless through 4 innings. In the top of the 5th, Marshall catcher Cooper Middleton led off with a double. After Middleton advanced on a wild pitch, he came home on a John Nash single, giving MHS a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the 5th inning tying the score at 1-1. The score remained the same for the next 4 innings with both teams pitching and fielding well. In the top of the 10th inning John Nash led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second on a fine bunt by Wyatt Gillum. Then Thomas Andalon hit a sharp grounder that was snagged by the Mason pitcher who threw Andalon out at first. In the meantime, John Nash took off for third base and scored on a wild throw giving Marshall a 2-1 lead. Felipe Martinez held Mason at bay to earn the save on the mound in the bottom on the 10th. Odie Butler picked up the win throwing 4 innings of scoreless pitching, striking out 5.
Offensively, Nash had 2 hits, Middleton, Rickey Nye, Justin Hankey, and Trenton Fuller had 1 hit each. In addition to Butler and Martinez, Fuller and Blake Patterson held the Bulldogs to 1 run over 5 innings.
The Redhawks are now 22-8 on the season and will now face Coldwater in the semi-finals of the MHSAA district on Saturday, June 1st at 10 am in Coldwater.
