Redhawks News · Become an Official for the MHSAA

My name is Curtis Messing, and I am a High School Football Official through the Kalamazoo Officials Association. The MHSAA has created a new board position to try to recruit new officials, and I was recently selected to be the Recruiting Coordinator for the Kalamazoo Area.

Many sports are struggling not only to find officials, but to find officials with the physical abilities to do the job right. Many older officials are continuing to officiate because they are severely needed. As you know, and have likely witnessed, the state needs more young officials. Officiating is a lot of fun, it allows people to give back to the sport, and it’s also a great way to make some extra money.

The MHSAA has created a Legacy program specifically for high school juniors and seniors. This program focuses on training young officials and also providing mentor-ship in an effort to grow the profession. Hopefully this program, along with myself, will help these high school students transition smoothly into the profession.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you for your help in making high school sports the best they can be. Click on the link for more information.   Officials Flyer
