Marshall Varsity Volleyball traveled to Lakeview High School for the Cereal City Tournament today where they finished 3-1 on the day. They posted wins over Union City, Holt and Pennfield in pool play then went on to lose to St Phil in the first round of the gold bracket.
Makenzie Bonnell ran the offense with 59 assists, 15 kills, 6 aces and 17 digs. Olivia Webber led the team offensively with 29 kills, 3 aces and 13 blocks. Abby Welke was close behind with 27 kills, 8 aces, and 3 blocks. Teagan Giannunzio and Ella McAllister each contributed 11 digs and 4 aces.
“We started off great today. We had a lot of energy both on the court and bench, served aggressive, passed well and kept the ball in play. That all made our first three matches really fun to watch and be a part of. We came out strong against St Phil in the Gold bracket and had control the first game but couldn’t finish then fell short in the second set too. Overall we did pretty well today but we need to work on improving our first contact on the ball.” – Coach Bre Johnson
