Girls Varsity Volleyball · Marshall loses three to top ranked teams.

Marshall traveled to Lakewood today to participate in a quad with host Lakewood, Lowell and Notre Dame Prep. First match of the day was against the Vikings of Lakewood who are currently ranked number 2 in the state in Division 2. Marshall lost the match by scores of 16-25 and 19-25. Next up for Marshall were the Red Arrows from Lowell who are currently ranked number 3 in Division 1. Marshall lost the match by scores of 15-25 and 13-25. Next up for Marshall was the Irish of Notre Dame Prep. The Ladyhawk lost the match by scores of 17-25 and 24-26.

On the day for the Ladyhawks, the offensive charge was led by Abby Welke with 18 kills, 3 aces, 3 blocks and 15 digs defensively. She was followed closely by Olivia Webber with 13 kills, 4 blocks. Ja’nyece Larry also conributed 6 kills on the day to go with 3 blocks and 3 digs. Defensively for the Ladyhawks, Ella McAllister led with 20 digs. Teagan Giannunzio was close behind with 14 digs of her own to go along with 2 aces and 36 set assists while running the offense. Also contibuting defensively for the Ladyhawks were Ashlynn Giannunzio and Paige Crull with 9 and 8 digs respectively.

“Today, the gym was loaded with good teams and top talent from around the state. It was great to be in that mix. We lost all 3 matches but got better as the day wore on and played competitve for the most part. It was a great learning experience and challenge that we needed at this point in the season. I’m looking forward to getting back to practice on Monday to make improvements on the things we learned about ourselves today.” Coach Bre Johnson

Marshall’s overall record now stands at 20-6 while being undefeated in conference at the 6-0 mark. Their next match is Wednesday, October 21st at Hastings.
