The Marshall Cross Country team has 3 invitationals on the books already this season. The season started on August 15th in the heat at the Early Burg Invite at Sleepy Hollow State Park. The girls were up first and had a strong showing with sophomore Alaina Dillon (8th) and senior Adi Domingo (30th) winning medals. The boys were up next and secured a 5th place team finish. Abraham McHugh (1st) and Calvin Bagale (33rd) brought home medals with Chase Weers, Austin Ruppel and Cam Weers also scoring for the varsity team. After a short weekend, the teams were off to the Big Hill Invitational in Three Rivers on August 19th. The girls varsity team tackled the big hill first and secured a solid 2nd place team finish. The team was once again led by Alaina Dillon (4th) and Adi Domingo (15th). Freshman Ellery Fazekas wasn't far behind and finished 19th in her cross country debut while Alaina Hoffman (29th) and Maura Young (33) topped off the scoring for Marshall. The boys hit the hill next and were also able to secure the runner up trophy. Abraham McHugh easily won the race (even after taking a wrong turn). Ty Winchell was next across the line for Marshall to secure a 17th place finish in his first race of the season with Cam Weers (21st), Chase Weers (24th), and Calvin Bagale (31st) also scoring for the varsity team. Next up was the Happy Acres Invitation hosted by Webberville on August 23rd. The girls once again had a great showing and brought home the 3rd place team trophy along with six individual medals by Alaina Dillon (4th), Alaina Hoffman (11th), Adi Domingo (14th), Ellery Fazekas (18th), Georgianna Schmidt (24th), and Maury Young (25th). The boys team was up next and, even though they were down two runners, were able to secure a 5th place team finish. Abe McHugh once again brought home the first place finish winning the race by 38 seconds. Freshman Austin Ruppel was next across the line securing a medal with a 19th place finish. The Weers brothers, seniors Cam (27th) and Chase (32nd), and freshman Ben (32nd) finished up the scoring for the varsity team. I can't be more pleased with the start of the season. The girls team has brought home 2 trophies in 3 races. Abe is undefeated while Alaina hasn't been out of the top 8. The runners are also putting up personal records (PR) each race. The team is excited to run the course at Turkeyville on Tuesday, August 26th for their only home race of the season. The girls run at 5:00 p.m. with the boys following at 5:45. It will be an exciting race so don't miss it!
