The Marshall Varsity Volleyball team turned in a strong showing at the Bedford Tournament on Friday, August 29, finishing the day with a 2-2 record against a field packed with some of the state’s top programs.
The Lady Redhawks earned decisive wins over Ann Arbor Skyline and Monroe, while dropping a close two-set battle to Plymouth Christian and another hard-fought contest to host Bedford.
Freshman standout Brynn Johnson paced Marshall’s offense with an impressive stat line: 29 kills, 6 aces, 23 digs, and 4 blocks. Grace Shubert and Peyton Tarmnel added depth at the net, each contributing 7 kills and a block. Setting up the offense was Addie Carden, who dished out 50 assists and tallied 14 digs of her own. Defensively, Jordyn St. John anchored the back row with 22 digs and 2 aces.
Head Coach Bre Johnson praised her team’s grit and progress throughout the tournament.
“The gym was loaded with top talent from around the state, we did a great job of digging deep and competing,” she said. “We came up short in a few matches but dominated the other two. We got better today—this team is up for the challenge every time we step on the floor. I’m very excited about this season.”
Marshall’s 2-2 finish showcased both their resilience and their potential, leaving plenty of optimism as they continue through the early stretch of the season.
