Two Relay Meets Kick Off Lady Redhawk Swim Season

The Marshall High School Girls Swim and Dive Team began their 2025 season with high energy and big smiles with two relay meets.  The first was the Spartan Relays Swim Meet hosted by Lakeview High School on August 23.  It was a big day for freshmen Cece Rodgers, Ella Kaniewski, and Ava Cobley, who got their first official taste of high school swimming. The nerves didn’t last long, and they sparkled in their events, bringing fresh energy and fast swims to the relay events.

Meanwhile, the returning swimmers led by captains Maria Dent, Alley Munson and Claire Thomas didn’t miss a beat, showing heart, hustle, and tenacity in every lane. Whether it was cheering from the deck or powering through the final strokes of a tough relay, the Lady Redhawks proved that team spirit and determination are already in mid-season form.

The second meet of the season was the SCC Relay Meet hosted at Harper Creek High School on August 27.  This relay meet featured the eight schools in the conference including Allegan, Harper Creek, Hastings, Marshall, Otsego, Plainwell, South Haven and Sturgis.  The energy was high, and the swims were fast.

The dive duo of Lexi Spencer and Lindsay Miller set the tone early with strong performances, earning an impressive 2nd place finish with a beautiful display of control and finesse.  Freshman Harlow Wilson made her debut on the board and wowed the crowd, showing poise and promise with each dive.

In the lanes, Marshall’s swimmers weren’t afraid to step outside their comfort zones. Many swimmers showed their dedication and teamwork by taking on new events and shined for our team in the process. Whether it was a new stroke, a longer distance, or a new relay role, the Redhawks embraced every challenge with pride.

Leading the charge was the 4x100 IM relay of Payton Huffman, Ella Kaniewski, Autumn Sanchez, and Maria Dent, powering to a 3rd place finish.  Another highlight of the night came from the 400-yard breaststroke relay of Payton Huffman, Ella Kaniewski, Lexi Spencer, and Autumn Sanchez battling tough competition and clinching 3rd place.  From the boards to the blocks, the Lady Redhawks brought intensity, heart, and team spirit to kick off the SCC season in style, helping the team finish 5th overall.  Go Redhawks!
