The Marshall Boys JV basketball team traveled to Battle Creek to face off with a big, physical, athletic, and well coached Lakeview team, and came way with a great victory 68-58. This was the last game of the season and ended on a great note. But more important then the game of basketball itself, was a life lesson and memory gained in the locker room before the game. It was then where I was able to give a jersey to our team manager, that has been at every practice and every game, and told him to “get dressed as you are playing tonight.” Seeing his reaction was priceless, but even better was seeing the pure excitement by the 11-players. They were just as excited for his opportunity as he was. This shows how selfless these players are towards each other. Another example of this is that it was a tied game with three minutes left, so a very tight game yet everyone scored. As time was expiring our team manager even scored, due to the great sportsmanship and class of the Lakeveiw coach. These are memories and life lessons these boys will remember forever.
Leading the way was Alex Costa with 18 points, Isaac Stetler has 13, with Josh Pugh adding 7 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. Dylan Riddle, Stephen Turner, and Carson Delong (also 5 rebounds) all scored 6 points each. Jayson Janofski and Ivan Green each added 3, with Ty’Rell Williams, Carter Wheeler, and Nolan McGilvrey each adding 2 points.
The season ends with a 17-3 record, 12-2 in league. The two year record for this group now stands at an amazing 34-3 and 22-2 in league play. Can’t wait to see what these boys do the next two years at the varsity level.
