Marshall traveled to Ortonville, Michigan today and defeated the home team from Brandon High School by a final score of 5-0. The win moves Marshall’s record to 2-1-0 on the season and is the Redhawks second consecutive win of the season.
Marshall opened the scoring early in the 1st half when Josh Pugh pounced on an errant pass by the Brandon defense. He intercepted the pass and slammed the ball into the net for a 1-0 Marshall lead. Pugh scored again with assists going to Anthony Dent and Vaughn Klein to allow Marshall to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Marshall got a corner kick goal from Anthony Dent, assisted by Vaughn Klein to increase the lead to 3-0. Late in the game, Marshall added goals by Brady Tatrow (assisted by Evan Markos and Carson Tucker) and Parker Gilbertson (assisted by Marcos Eshuis and Branden Contat) for the final scoreline of 5-0.
Carter Wheeler and Nate Turner each played a half of the game in net to earn the shutout, the second consecutive game they’ve combined for a shutout.
Marshall returns to action with an I-8 Conference game on Tuesday against Harper Creek. Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm at Harper Creek High School.
