May 22nd – The MMS track teams completed their 2019 season with the I-8 League meet at Coldwater. Boys finished tied for 3rd with Harper Creek, while the girls finished in 6th. Ty’Quarion Colon-Figueroa took first place in boys 70-meter dash with a time of 9.16 seconds. Jack Minor earned a 4th place finish in 200 hurdles with a personal best time of 31.54 seconds. Setting the school record in boys shot put and taking 2nd place was DJ Boyer with a throw of 43 feet, 6 inches. Josh Pugh showcased his skills by taking first place in all three of his events (long jump, 100-meter, and 200-meter dash). Josh’s long jump of 19 feet, 8 inches was not only a personal best but also is the second longest jump by a middle school boy in the state for the 2019 season. In the 100-meter dash, Josh ran a time of 11.99 seconds. Lastly, in the 200-meter dash, Josh ran a school record time of 24.74 seconds.
On the girl’s side, Addison Waito took third place in the 400-meter with a time of 1:05.85. Shawn Brophy and Bailey Parker took third and fourth place in the pole vault, each clearing 6 feet, 6 inches. Highlighting girls performances for Marshall, Alexis Stealy continued to improve upon her own school record in the shot up. Her throw of 37 feet, 4 and a half inches, earned her 1st place, it also placed her in the top 10 for all girls shot putters in the state, and second among all female 7th graders.
