Marshall Varsity vs Monroe High School Loss Marshall opened their season today with hard-fought 1-0 loss to Monroe this afternoon. Both teams traveled to Boyne, MI to have the chance to face some top-level competition to open the season. Marshall started the game sluggishly and Monroe was able to capitalize with an early goal. A Monroe forward able to cut inside from a wide position and unleashed an fierce strike that gave Marshall goalkeeper Sam Krueger no chance. Marshall was also fortunate to see a Monroe penalty kick skied over the bar. Marshall eventually found their footing and came into the game nicely. Throughout the remainder of the first half and for the second half, Marshall was able to do a better job of controlling the Monroe offense and created some good chances, but couldn't find the final touch. So, Monroe was able to hold on for a 1-0 win. With the win, Marshall starts the season 0-1-0. Marshall returns to action tomorrow when they face Grandville Calvin Christian, Birmingham Seaholm, and Williamston in shortened games.
