Marshall Volleyball Wins Leland Invitational Redhawks open season 4-0-1 and bring home first-place trophy Marshall Volleyball opened its season in impressive fashion, finishing the Leland Invitational with a 4-0-1 record and the tournament championship. The Redhawks began the day by splitting their opening match of the season with Elk Rapids before finding their rhythm and never looking back. Marshall went on to win its next four matches, defeating Leland, Plymouth Christian, Morley Stanwood and Portage Northern on its way to the first-place trophy. Marshall's balanced attack was a major factor throughout the tournament, as the Redhawks were able to spread the ball offensively and receive contributions from everyone on the court. Sophomore Brynn Johnson led the Redhawks offensively with 39 kills, while also contributing 29 digs and eight aces. Claire Kelly added 12 kills and 30 digs, while Peyton Tarmnel recorded 10 kills. Defensively, Anna Laditka wore the libero jersey for most of the day and led Marshall with 34 digs. Addie Carden directed the Redhawk offense from the setter position, finishing the tournament with 63 assists. The strong opening performance was made even more encouraging by the chemistry Marshall displayed throughout the weekend. "This was a great opening weekend for us. We use this time for team bonding as well and typically don't sleep much, so to see them come out and be able to perform was great! Everyone contributed, and our team chemistry is going to carry us this season. I'm very excited to watch these girls progress and perform." With contributions coming from throughout the lineup, the Redhawks leave Leland with a championship trophy, an unbeaten 4-0-1 record, and plenty of momentum to begin the season.
