Marshall Varsity vs Gull Lake High School Win Marshall traveled to Gull Lake High School on Monday evening to take on the Blue Devils. Marshall came away with a hard-fought 2-0 victory. In a choppy first half, neither team created a lot of quality chances, but Marshall managed to take a 1-0 lead on a Rowdy Joseph goal. Brandon Baker played a forward ball that Carson Clapper flicked on into space. Joseph picked up the flick and made a little space at the top of the box before firing the ball into the net to give Marshall a lead they would take into halftime. In the second half, Marshall's level of play improved. Late in the half, Joseph picked up a ball at the top of the box and made a great individual run, beating several defenders before squaring the ball across the face of goal to Myles Olson. The Gull Lake goalkeeper had no chance as Joseph slammed the ball into the net from close range to give Marshall a 2-0 lead. Marshall's midfield (Charlie Monaweck and Carter Clapper in particular) and central defense (Brandon Baker and Trenton Wolkiewicz) played strong games to help keep the Blue Devils at bay. Goalkeeper Sam Krueger, with the help from the midfield and defense, earned his 2nd consecutive shutout. It is Marshall's 3rd shutout on the season and 3rd in the last 4 games. With the win, Marshall's record improves to 2-3-2. Marshall has won its last two games and is unbeaten in its last four games. Marshall travels to Mattawan on Wednesday evening to face another tough non-conference test.
