Marshall Varsity Volleyball dropped a hard-fought match to Lakeview on Tuesday evening, falling in four sets. After dropping the first two sets, the Redhawks responded with a strong effort in the third to extend the match. Marshall continued to battle in the fourth, but Lakeview was able to close out the match and earn the win. Brynn Johnson led the Redhawks on both sides of the ball, finishing with 19 kills, 34 digs and 3 aces. Grace Shubert added 7 kills and 3 blocks. Marshall’s offense was directed by setters Addie Carden and Anna Laditka. Carden finished with 25 assists, while Laditka added 23 assists. “We came into this match knowing it was going to be a battle and that we were going to have to earn every point. We had just played them a few days ago, and both teams made very few errors, so the only way you were scoring was by creating points with your own offensive weapons. “We were a little off our game and never really got into a rhythm all night. Lakeview played phenomenal defense, which made it difficult for us to score. Communication was another issue for us. “The good news is that both of those things are fixable, and I know we’ll go right back to the drawing board and figure it out. This group of girls works hard, and they’ll find a way.” - Coach Bre Johnson
