Marshall Varsity vs Western High School (3 - 1) Win Marshall traveled to Jackson Western (Parma) High school Thursday night for an I-8 Conference soccer match. Marshall came away with a 3-1 victory. Less than 3 minutes into the the game, Marshall struck first. They took advantage of Western's high defensive line. Carter Clapper played a ball up the wing behind the defense that sprung Rowdy Joseph in behind the Western defense. Joseph drove at the net and at the last minute, slotted a ball across the net to a streaking Carson Clapper who knew what to do with an open net in front of him to give Marshall a 1-0 lead. Towards the conclusion of the 1st half, both teams traded goals on defensive errors. Marshall 1st gave up a soft goal and then Trenton Wolkiewicz's free kick from at least 60 yards out found the net due to a Western defensive error. So, Marshall went into the half with a 2-1 lead. In the second half, Marshall didn't generate as many chances, but saw the game out well with Western not able to generate quality chances. Marshall was able to add a little cushion to their lead when Carson Clapper struck again. This time he nipped in front of the keeper to nod a cross into the net. Assists on the goal went to Myles Olson and Rowdy Joseph. It was Carson's 4th goal in the last two games. With the win, Marshall to improves to 2-1-0 in the I-8 and 6-4-2 overall.
