Marshall High School

Marshall traveled to Holt High School on Tuesday (9/22) night for a non-conference soccer match with the Rams. Despite trailing 1-0 for most of the game, Marshall came away 3-1 winners and stretched their winning streak to 4 games (and 7 of their last 8). Despite a bright start from Marshall, they were behind less than 5 minutes into the game when a Holt forward punished some laxed marking when he hit a tremendous shot from a tight angle that left Marshall goalkeeper Sam Krueger no chance as banged off the far post and into the opposite side netting. Marshall played a good first half and created numerous quality chances, but couldn’t find a way to put the ball in the net and went into halftime trailing 1-0. The second half started with more of the same. Marshall created chances and knocked the ball around nicely, but was not able to change the lights on the scoreboard. The breakthrough finally came with less than 20 minutes to play in the game. Max McCormack beat his defender on the dribble, got into the box and was dragged down as he went past another defender. A penalty kick was given and Rowdy Joseph converted to tie the score on Joseph’s 10th goal of the year. Shortly thereafter, Myles Olson and McCormack played a cute little 1-2 at the top of the box that released Olson in behind the defense. Olson got there first and nipped the ball past the on-rushing keeper to give Marshall a 2-1 lead. Marshall completed the scoring when Carson Clapper went on a terrific individual run, beating several defenders with high-level skills before being fouled in the box. Clapper took and converted the penalty kick to give Marshall a 3-1 lead. The 3 goals came in a 7 minute explosion. With the win, Marshall moves to 7-4-2 on the season. Marshall is 7-1-1 in its last 9 games. Marshall returns to action on Thursday (8/24) when they travel to Jackson Northwest High School to take on the Mounties in an I-8 conference match-up.
