Varsity vs Coldwater High School MHS Varsity vs Coldwater High School (80 - 97) Loss The Marshall High School girls swimming and diving team turned in several strong individual and relay performances Thursday evening but came up short against Coldwater, falling 97-80 in a dual meet. Marshall recorded multiple event victories and runner-up finishes, highlighted by Ella Kaniewski and Isabella Russell in the individual medley, Autumn Sanchez in the sprint freestyle, and a strong distance performance by Russell in the 500-yard freestyle. Kaniewski led the way in the 200-yard individual medley, winning in 2:42.63, while teammate Russell followed closely in second at 2:43.90. The pair continued to contribute in other events, with Russell placing second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:21.41 and capturing first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:55.28. Payton Huffman added a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, touching in 6:51.35. Sanchez delivered another first-place finish for Marshall in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking 27.51 seconds. She also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.32. Kate Fedders added a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle at 30.29 and placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:06.12. Marshall's relay teams also made important contributions. The 200-yard medley relay team of Russell, Kaniewski, Katie Robinson and Sanchez finished second in 2:13.22. The A 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kaniewski, Russell, Robinson and Sanchez placed first for Marshall in 1:52.82, with Sanchez anchoring the quartet in 26.74 seconds. The B freestyle relay team of Taylor Olding, Isabella Towne, Zoey White and Fedders finished third in 2:13.74. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Marshall's A team of Olding, Ameleah Hill, Huffman and Fedders placed second in 4:48.61. The B team of Emry Astleford, Towne, White and Mary Fedders finished third in 5:22.01, giving the team additional points. Other notable performances included Olding's third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:25.56, followed by Hill in fourth among the Marshall swimmers at 1:31.49. Kaniewski added a third-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 1:24.56, while Mary Fedders placed fifth in the same event in 1:37.66. Robinson also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:22.12. Marshall's depth was evident throughout the meet, with contributions from swimmers across multiple events and both relay squads. Although Coldwater secured the team victory, the five-point margin reflected a competitive contest in which Marshall earned valuable finishes and continued to build experience. The final score was Coldwater 97, Marshall 80.
