Marshall 1 - Battle Creek Lakeview 1 Marshall traveled to Battle Creek Lakeview for a non-conference boys soccer match-up to end the regular season. They came away with a 1-1 tie after trading goals with the Spartans. Marshall didn’t play with their normal energy in either half. They were fortunate to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead after Charlie Monaweck received a square pass in the middle of the field from Carter Clapper. Monaweck was given a little too much space by the Spartan defense and he sized up the opportunity and launched a rocket from about 25 yards that left the goalkeeper no chance as it soared into the top corner of the net. In the second half, Marshall actually created some better opportunities, but still didn’t play its best soccer. All game they struggled to contain Lakeview’s dangerous #10 and that ended up bitting them late in the game. WIth less than 15 minutes to play, #10 was able to beat his marker out wide and pull Marshall defenders to him. His cross found an unmarked player in front of the goal and the Lakeview forward made no mistake, tying the score. After giving up the goal, Marshall created a couple of decent chances, but it was too little too late and the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The tie ends Marshall’s 8-game win streak and puts their record at 11-4-3 on the season. Marshall begins MHSAA tournament play with a 1st round district game at Olivet HS against Olivet on Wednesday, 10/14, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30pm.
