On Monday (10/19), Marshall traveled to Olivet High School to take on Harper Creek in a boys soccer district semi-final match-up. Both teams had enjoyed successful seasons, Harper entered the game with 13 wins on the year and Marshall had 12. Marshall came away with 1-0 victory in a hard-fought, physical match-up. Harper had eliminated Marshall from the state tournament each of the past two years, but Marshall got a first half goal from Carson Clapper and rode some solid defending to a victory. Midway through the first half, Olson made a little space for himself wide of the Harper Creek box and served a cross across the face of the goal behind the defense. Clapper arrived at the perfect time at the far post to bang the ball into the net and give Marshall what would be the game-winning goal. Marshall did create a couple of chances here and there, but the game was largely played between the boxes with both defenses being quite stingy. The contest was physical and hotly contested. Marshall put in a master-class defensive effort to help goalkeeper Sam Kreuger earn the shutout, his 11th of the year. With the win, Marshall advanced to 13-4-3 on the season. After a slow start, Marshall has gone 12-1-2 in their last 15 games and is unbeaten in their last 11 games. That loss came to Coldwater, 3-2, who they moved on to face in the district final on Thursday (10/22) with kickoff scheduled for 6:30pm at Olivet High School.
