MARSHALL, MI – Marshall Varsity Volleyball celebrated a special Senior Night on Wednesday, honoring four seniors and one exchange student while earning a four-set victory over Hastings. The Redhawks took the match with scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-11, and 25-12, sending their seniors out with a win in their final home conference match. Brynn Johnson and Peyton Tarmnel led the Redhawks offensively with 10 kills each. Tarmnel also added 3 blocks for points, while Johnson contributed 8 digs. Grace Shubert and Kamryn Wintersteen each chipped in 5 kills, while Claire Kelly and Reegan Lehman added 4 kills apiece. Defensively, Kelly led the way with an impressive 17 digs. The Redhawks' offense was directed by setters Addie Carden and Anna Laditka. Carden finished with 20 assists and 5 aces, while Laditka recorded 17 assists and 3 aces. While the victory was a great way to close out the night, the focus was on celebrating the four seniors who have given so much to the Marshall volleyball program. "Tonight was about our seniors. We played for them," said Marshall Head Coach Bre Johnson. "They were all able to contribute throughout the night and had a blast playing in front of our home crowd one last time. These four girls have done so much for our program, and I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to coach them." Claire Kelly, a three-year varsity player and two-year team captain, has been a consistent leader for the Redhawks. Her energy, leadership, and competitive spirit have made her an important part of the program both on and off the court. Kelly has been a steady presence throughout her career and someone her teammates can always count on. Peyton Tarmnel has also spent three seasons on the varsity roster. Standing at 6'2", Tarmnel has been a strong presence at the net, using her size and blocking ability to make life difficult for opposing hitters. Her ability to control the net has been a valuable asset to the Redhawks. Kamryn Wintersteen, a two-year varsity player, has made a significant impact on the right side. Her size and ability to put up a huge block make her a tough matchup for opponents, but it is her ball control and ability to find shots offensively that truly set her apart. Sienna Luzadder, a first-year varsity player, has made her mark through her enthusiasm, positive energy, and willingness to do whatever the team needs. Whether it is stepping into a different position or bringing energy to practice, Luzadder has embraced her role and has been the ultimate teammate. Alice Niola, an exchange student from Italy, has made a lasting impression on the Marshall volleyball program in her short time here. Niola spent the season competing on the junior varsity team, but her impact has extended well beyond the court. She has embraced the program with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, quickly becoming a valued part of the Redhawk volleyball family. On Senior Night, Niola brought incredible energy from the bench, cheering on her teammates and helping create a memorable atmosphere. Although her time with the program has been short, the relationships she has built and the energy she brings have made her a special part of the team. Senior Night was more than just another match for Marshall. It was an opportunity to recognize five special athletes who have each contributed to the program in their own unique way. From leadership and competitive play to energy, enthusiasm, and selflessness, each has left a lasting impression on Marshall Volleyball. With one final victory in front of their home crowd, the Redhawks gave their seniors and exchange student a night to remember.
