Marshall’s Lady Redhawks completed the first week of the season with two relay meets. The
first was the Spartan Relays Swim Meet hosted by Lakeview High School. The meet
featured a total of ten teams, with eight Division 1 or Division 2 teams. Marshall was one of
only two Division 3 teams to compete. Highlights of Marshall’s showing include the 400 Yard
Free Relay team of Claire Thomas, Lilly Marvin, Ella Doolittle, and Maria Dent. The team
placed 7 th among 22 entries and dropped a total of 18 seconds from their seed time and both
Thomas and Dent had initial splits under 30 seconds. The 200 Yard Backstroke Relay Team
of Courtney Olding, Claire Thomas, Maria Dent, and Ava Wagner also posted a strong 7th
place finish among 20 entries and dropped a cumulative 19 seconds from their seed time.
Marshall also placed 7th in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay with the team of Maria Dent,
Courtney Olding, Ella Doolittle and Claire Thomas shaving nearly a minute off of their seed
time.
The second meet of the week was the SCC Relay Meet hosted at Otsego High School. This
relay meet featured the eight schools in the conference including Allegan, Harper Creek,
Hastings, Marshall, Otsego, Plainwell, South Haven and Sturgis. Redhawk Diver Alexis
Spencer placed 5 th among the competition for her pool-piercing acumen. The 800 Yard
Freestyle Relay team of Maria Dent, Lilly Marvin, Ella Doolittle and Claire Thomas placed 3 rd
among their conference competitors and once again dropped 37 seconds off their seed time.
The 400 Yard Individual Medley Relay team placed 4 th with the crew of Grace Johnson, Ava
Wagner, Katie Robinson and Autumn Sanchez. Robinson and Sanchez are freshman
members of the team and demonstrating their skills right out of the gate. The 400 Yard
Backstroke Relay team of Ava Wagner, Courtney Olding, Maria Dent and Claire Thomas
reached all the way back to earn a 3 rd place finish for the Redhawks. This group of Juniors
knows how to get the job done. No doubt, the team is off to a solid start and there are good
things ahead this season with a growing team of nearly 30 members and the seasoned
coaching expertise of David Karns.
Go Redhawks!
