Boys Cross Country Wins 24 Team Stockbridge Invitational
Bidwell Runs Sub 15 to Reset School Record
The Redhawk Cross Country teams competed at the Stockbridge Invitational on Saturday and turned in two strong performances. The boys team won the event by 38 points over the second place team. The girls team, running without their top runner, was ninth.
The boy's team was led once again by Jack Bidwell, who broke the coveted 15 minute barrier for the first time, lowering his own school record by 17 seconds to a stunning 14:56, winning by 26 seconds. Sophomore Abe McHugh made some history of his own, breaking the 16 minute barrier (15:51) to become the second fastest runner in school history. Reece Davis (16:18), Clark Erwin (17:12, a 46 second PR), and Cam Weers (lowered his season record by 47 seconds, 17:46) rounded out Marshall's scoring. Ty Winchell was four seconds behind Cam, setting a new PR, despite running the last two and a half miles of the race with only one shoe.
The girls also turned in a number of excellent performances. Alaina Dillon led the Ladyhawks with her 25th place finish. The next five Marshall runners improved their times by at least 45 seconds. Savannah Richmond (21:20), Adi Domingo (22:17), Alaina Hoffman (22:23), Maura Young (22:27) and Jenna Lumsden (23:29) all set PRs.
Not to be outdone, the Redhawks took second place in both JV races. Scoring for boys were Calvin Bagale, Victor Norrad, Aiden Vance, Anderson Elsesser, Connor Grigg and Caylor Elsesser. Scoring for girls were Gianna DeCola, Georgie Schmidt, Andrea Green, Lontaysia Brewer, Ariana Russell and Aaliyah Johnson, Calvin, Victor, Gianna, Georgie and Andrea all won medals for their efforts.
"It was a great day to be a Redhawk cross country runner" said a pleased Coach Wissink. "Our boys have the best 1-2-3 punch in the state, and our 4-5-6 guys really improved today. By the end of October we should be pretty dangerous team. The girls also made great strides today. We're excited for the rest of the season".
