For the third consecutive year the Boys Cross Country Team captured the Interstate 8 league championship, once again in dominating fashion. All five of the scoring runners earned All Conference honors, which go to the top 14 finishers.
Jack Bidwell once again led the team, winning the race easily in a quick 15:32 for the challenging course. Abe McHugh and Reece Davis were next across the line in 4th and 5th, with Clark Erwin in 9th and Ty Winchell in 13th. Cam and Chase Weers finished out the varsity in 19th and 27th.
"That was a really dominating win, and a great way to set us up going into Regionals" said Coach Wissink. "Our top three did their usual outstanding job, and Clark and Ty ran their best races of the season, so our training is going as planned. We could have won even if Jack had sat out, so I'm really proud of our depth. We'll be in a shootout with Otsego at regionals, but I like our chances".
The girl's team came into the league meet needing to beat Parma to win the league. Unfortunately the girls came up ten points short, finishing as league runner up. Freshman Alaina Dillon and junior Leah McPartlin both had outstanding races to finish 4th and 5th, earning All League honors. Also scoring for the Ladyhawks were Alaina Hoffman, Adi Domingo and Savannah Richmond.
"Our injuries caught up with us", said a disappointed Coach Wissink. "We don't have much depth and with two of our varsity girls hurting we just couldn't get it done. I'm extremely proud of how we competed. The girls gave it everything they had. In the last twenty years we've finished first or second 18 times, with two third place finishes, so I'm proud of how these girls have kept our tradition of excellence intact."
