Marshall’s Lady Redhawks competed in the Southwestern and Central Michigan Swim
Conference (SCC) Championships on November 8 and 9 to finish the season with a 6th place
finish overall and several individuals and relay teams finishing in the top 8 throughout the
conference. The Championship Meet was hosted by the Otsego Bulldogs and featured the
Allegan Tigers, Delton Kellogg Hastings Saxons, Harper Creek Beavers, Plainwell Trojans,
South Haven Rams, Sturgis Trojans, and Marshall’s Redhawks.
Friday’s events resulted in numerous time improvements and swimmers placing in either the
consolation races (places 9 through 16), or the final championship races for first through 8th
place. Then, at the finals on Saturday, Marshall’s swimmers held their place or improved
their times from the day before. The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Courtney Olding, Grace
Johnson, Autumn Sanchez and Lilly Marvin finished in 6th place; and the B-team of Ava
Wagner, Katie Robinson, Payton Huffman and Kate Fedders finished in 10th place. Marshall
was also sixth in the 400 Freestyle Relay with the team of Ella Doolittle, Sanchez, Maria Dent
and Claire Thomas. The Redhawks earned 5th place in the 200 Yard Freestyle relay with the
team of Robinson, Johnson, Dent and Thomas.
Individual events featured Alexes Spencer earning 7th place in Diving with teammate Lindsay
Miller in 10th place. Thomas came in 6th place in the 200 Yard Freestyle and in 7th place for
the 100 Yard Freestyle. Sanchez finished in 8th place for the 200 Yard Individual Medley,
Doolittle placed 7th in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Dent in 8th place, and Olding was 6th in the
100 Yard Backstroke. Johnson finished in 6
th place for the 100 Yard Breaststroke and
earned a Division 3 State Qualifying time of 1:14.35 to break a 4 year dry spell for the Lady
Redhawks making it to the state level competition.
“I am proud of our team and their strong finish for the season,” said Coach Dave Karns.
