Varsity girls fight for a win

The Varsity girls basketball team began their season on Tuesday against a talented team from Battle Creek Central. The girls started a little flat finding themselves trailing 1-10 early on in the first quarter. They settled down and clawed back leading by one at half. The Redhawks lead by as much as 12 in the second half and finished the game with a 47-42 victory. Leading scoring for the Redhawks was Emily Dingee with 15 pts and 8 rebounds. In her first varsity game, freshmen Grace Shubert had a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Brooke Carden added 6pts and 7 rebounds, Jordyn St. John chipped in 6 points and dished 4 assists, Anaya Burghdorf, Brielle Kelly, and Lola Saber added 2 a piece.
“It was really nice to get a win in our first game. We did some things really well and we also learned a lot of things we need to continue to improve on. We’re looking forward to starting conference play Friday.” Coach Sundell
