The Marshall girls bowling team continued their success on the lanes this week with wins on Thursday against Hastings and Lumen Christi on Friday.
On Thursday, they moved to 2-0 in the conference with a 16-14 victory over Hastings. Marshall overcame a slow start while Hastings got off to a hot start. Hastings shot a team game of 800 while Marshall grinded to 755 behind games of 172 from Ember Boughton and 162 from Summer Stone to go with 158 from Zoey Stone. Game two saw a significant drop from both teams. Marshall won 661-610 led by Ember Boughton with another 172. Marshall took the total, 1416-1410. Needing only a single win in the baker round, Marshall won game 1, 136-123, securing the victory, Hastings won the final baker 165-145.
On Friday, the Redhawks hosted Lumen Christi in a non-conference match. Like the day prior, things started out slow before the Hawks turned it around. In game 1 there were just too many open frames that proved costly as the Titans prevailed, 670-654, Zoey and Olivia Stone led the team with 153 and 148, respectively. Game two trended in the wrong direction, but more so for the Titans as the Redhawks took that game 604 - 564. Marshall's top score in game two came from Zoey Stone with a 160.
Needing to win one baker game and the two game total, the Redhawks shuffled their order for baker bowling. Riding the success of the first two games, Zoey Stone slid into the anchor role for the first time in her career, she didn't disappoint. In frame 5, she left a nasty 7-9-10 split, but made an amazing shot to convert the split. That split conversion brought life to her team and from then on, they took care of business with a 134-118 win. In the final baker game, the grind continued as Marshall needed to keep it close enough to take total in order to secure a victory, while already having no worse than a tie secured. Well, the game itself came down to the 9th and 10th frame where the Stone sisters took center stage. Olivia struck in the 9th and Zoey struck in the tenth followed by a ten pin that she converted to lock up the game (129-115) and the match 21-9.
While the scores for both matches are not even close to what the team or coach expects, at the end of the day, the ladies did what they had to do to secure the victory on both occasions and move to 7-0 on the season. Conference action continues on Tuesday at University Lanes in Albion when the Redhawks visit Western at 3:30. It's the start of a big week as they will visit Jackson Northwest on Thursday, host Pennfield on Friday and compete in the Mel Wolfe Invitational at Jax 60 next Saturday.
