Marshall opened their season last night on a windy night in Kalamazoo. Marshall faced the Kalamazoo Central Maroon Giants and came up on the short end of a 5-2 scoreline.
Playing against the wind in the 1st half, Marshall gave up a goal, but held firm to get to halftime with the score tied at 1-1. Marshall's goal came courtesy of a long-range effort from Ollie Rozell.
In the second half, Marshall was unable to capitalize on the wind advantage and had some defensive breakdowns. They gave up three unanswered goals to be down 4-1 before Anayah Burghdorf intercepted a pass at the top of the Central box and neatly beat the keeper to tighten the score to 4-2. Unfortunately, the rally was short-lived as the Maroon Giants were able to pierce the Marshall defense one more time to make the score 5-2 and put the game to bed.
The loss gives Marshall a 0-1-0 record to start the season. Marshall returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Forest Hills Eastern for a tournament.
