Marshall traveled to Forest Hills Eastern High School on Saturday for an early season tournament.
The tournament was originally scheduled for Ludington, but was moved inland because of colder weather on the Lakeshore.
In Marshall's tournament opener, the Redhawks beat Montague 1-0 to claim their 1st victory of the year. Marshall got a 1st half goal by senior Zadie Zuehlke against a stiff breeze. Marshall defended well in both halves to earn the shutout and the victory.
Senior goalkeeper, Megan Rehfeldt, and the Redhawk defense, earned the 1st shutout of the season as Marshall moved to 1-1-0 on the year.
In the second game, Marshall faced Ludington. Ludington claimed an early lead on a well struck goal that beat Rehfeldt. That goal allowed Ludington to head into the halftime interval with a 1-0 lead.
In the 2nd half, Marshall was definitely the aggressor and had several good chances early. Marshall was unlucky to give up a penalty kick goal, completely against the run of play to go down 2-0.
Marshall didn't let that deter them and they continued to try to attach. They managed to pull a goal back when Ollie Rozell got a nice pass from Lola Saber and beat the keeper with a sharp finish to narrow the lead to 2-1. Marshall had the better of the chances the rest of the way, but was unable to find the met again. So, time expired with Marshall losing to Ludington by a 2-1 score.
Marshall's record now stands at 1-2-0 on the year. Marshall returns to action on Tuesday when they travel Edwardsburg.
