On a night when the field was green at kickoff and white covered with snow by halftime, Marshall defeated the visitors from Hillsdale 8-0.
Marshall opened the scoring quickly when Ollie Rozell got an assist from Lola Saber to give Marshall a 1-0 lead less than 1 minute into the game. Before 10 minutes had been played, Marshall had a 4-0 lead as they got three more goals in relatively quick succession. Those goals were scored by Lola Saber (assisted by Nyla Whittaker and Jordyn St. John), Lillian Moore (assisted by Zadie Zuelhke and Nyla Whittaker), and Alaina Dillon (assisted by Lillian Moore and Nyla Whittaker).
Marshall's passing and movement were quite sharp and they continued to pour on the offensive pressure. Although the goal scoring pace slowed a bit, it certainly continued as they got 3 more goals over the next 20 minutes. Goals came from Anaya Burghdorf (assisted by Alaina Dillon and Zadie Zuehlke), Burghdorf again (assisted by Jordyn St. John), and Jane Taylor.
With less than 10 minutes to play and the weather getting worse by the minute, Darain Henson scored a beautiful long-range free kick to give Marshall an 8-0 lead that meant as soon as the half expired the game was over due to the mercy rule.
Megan Rehfeldt (with a little help from Lillian Moore) in goal and the Marshall defense earned another shutout. Rehfeldt's, and the teams, 3rd shutout of the season. With the win, Marshall improves its record to 3-2 on the season. This weekend, Marshall faces Trenton in the opening game of the Girls Soccer Sportsfest Tournament.
