Friday 4/10 vs Mason 

Game 1: Layne Churchill set the tone in the circle going 5 strong innings, with 4 strikeouts and just 1 walk. Early offensive execution in the first two innings led to a 4-0 lead. From there the Redhawks poured it on with extra base hits from Bella Ryan and Gwen Beach. Ryan, Beach, and Brooke Carden all went 2-3, while freshman outfielder Addison Carden was 2-2 with an RBI in her first varsity game. The Redhawks played flawless defense as they did not commit an error. 

 

Game 2: Claire Kelly started in the circle in game 2 and was effective early. In the 3rd inning Mason jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a bases loaded double. We misplayed the relay, causing all 4 runs to score. Both teams traded runs for a few innings and Mason led 9-5 heading into the bottom of the 7th. With 1 out, Brielle Kelly got things started with a base hit.  Following a hit by pitch, a fly out, and infield single, we were down to two outs and the bases loaded. Bella Ryan walked, Layne Churchill singled, and Addison Carden singled allowing us to tie it up 9-9. Claire Kelly came back in to pitch during the international tie breaker inning and recorded two strikeouts but Mason was able to score twice on a pair of doubles. In the bottom of the 8th Lauren Lewis led off with a bunt single, moving Alayna Hayes to 3rd. Brielle Kelly followed with a double deep to left, scoring Hayes. Lewis scored on a sacrifice fly from Brooke Carden and with two outs and an 0-2 count, Gwen Beach singled to win the game. Brielle Kelly was 3-5 with a double and an RBI and Layne Churchill was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Brooke Carden also had 3 RBIs. 

 

Marshall 2-0, 0-0 on the season.
