Softball 4/17 at Otsego

Game 1: Marshall 12, Otsego 0

In a showdown of Marshall’s high powered offense vs Otsego’s P Audrey Lingbeek (WMU commit) it lived up to its billing through 4 innings. Both team struggled to find base runners as Layne Churchill and Claire Kelly combined to throw a 3 hit shutout. In the top of the 5th inning the Redhawks loaded the bases and with two outs Gwen Beach singled to give Marshall the lead 1-0. In the top of the 7th, Brielle Kelly led off with a solo home run to left. In the inning, Bella Ryan would homer twice and Layne Churchill also homered to push the score to 12-0. Offensively Brielle Kelly 3-3 with a home run and two stolen bases, Bella Ryan with two homers and 6 RBI, Layne Churchill with a solo home run. 

 

Game 2: Marshall 12, Otsego 15

After a big emotional week, we saw a drop off in focus and execution down the stretch in game 2. The Redhawks committed some uncharacteristic late game errors and allowed Otsego to erase a 6 run deficit in the 3rd. We struggled to get ahead of hitters and when we did, we gave up a lot of soft contact that found holes. Brooke Carden 3-3 with 2 doubles, Addison Carden 3-4 with 2 RBI, Bella Ryan 2-4 with a double, Brielle Kelly 2-3 with a double, and Layne Churchill with a deep homer to left field.
