On Thursday the Marshall men’s golf team traveled to Forest Akers on the MSU campus for a major invitational.
The PGA Reach sponsored event hosted by Hillsdale Academy is one of a few elite level events this early in the year with many of the top teams and individual golfers from around the state of Michigan.  The Marshall Men did very well carding a combined score of 333, and placing 8th out of 25 and beating fellow i8 teams Parma Western and Coldwater.

Marshall was led by top  5 finisher Junior, Clark Erwin who had a career best 73 and his third straight podium finish this season. Clark finished tied for 4th 2 strokes behind a three way tie for medalist. 

Marshall was in contention early in second place after the first 5 holes but the weather and the course continued to challenge the team. The final score unfortunately doesn’t reflect the strong comeback the team made after a shaky middle part of their rounds.  Following Clark in scoring were senior Kayden Granger with an 84, sophomore Karson Moga playing in his first major event with an 87 and rounding out scoring for Marshall was senior Xander Goss with an 89.  Sophomore Henry Strand was the 5th Marshall player with a 93. 

The Marshall Men are looking forward to their next I-8 match at Arbor Hills on Tuesday April 22 at Arbor Hills in Jackson, hosted by Parma Western.  Currently in second in the I-8 a strong finish Tuesday can keep them in contention for an I-8 championship.
