Marshall @ Jackson Northwest

Marshall traveled to Jackson Northwest (NW) High School for an I-8 Conference girls soccer match-up Wednesday evening.  NW battled extremely hard all night, but Marshall eventually prevailed by a 5-0 scoreline.

Marshall's lone goal of the 1st half came when Ollie Rozell scored an "Olimpico".  She scored directly from a corner kick without anyone else touching it. The ball went over the goalkeeper's head and bent into the far post netting.

NW was very physical and focused on getting numbers behind on the ball.  They focused on making it difficult for Marshall to generate quality chances.  After halftime, Marshall was a little more effective at creating chances and definitely more effective at converting them.  Rozell struck again after Lillian Moore got her head to an Alaina Hoffman cross.  The deflected ball bounced into the box and Rozell beat the keeper to the ball and chipped it over the on-rushing keeper's head and into the net to give Marshall a 2-0 lead.  This goal caused NW to come out of their shell a little bit and open things up for Marshall.  The Redhawks took advantage.  Rozell was again involved as she crossed the ball that Nyla Whittaker met at the far post and banged it into the net for a 3-0 lead.  Adriana Domingo scored her 1st career varsity goal off a Zadie Zuelhke assist to give Marshall a 4-0 lead.  Finally, Domingo turned provider as she assisted on Darian Henson's goal that gave Marshall a 5-0 lead.

With the win, Marshall moves to 8-7-0 overall and 3-2-0 in I-8 Conference play.

Megan Rehfeldt went the distance in goal for the shutout.  Her 7th shutout on the season.

Marshall @ Portage Northern

Marshall traveled to Portage Northern (PN) High School for a non-conference match-up Saturday morning.  In a well-played game, Marshall battled to a 2-2 tie.

Marshall was on the front foot for most of the opening 25 minutes, but was unable to make it show up on the scoreboard.  Late in the half, PN scored a goal from an awkward angle to give them a 1-0 lead they would carry into halftime.

In the 2nd half, Marshall took advantage of having the breeze at their back and really pressured PN consistently.  The pressure paid dividends when Ollie Rozell swung a corner kick into the box and Lillian Moore was first to meet it.  Moore's flick evaded some PN defenders and allowed Nicole Ladd to find the ball at the far post and deposit it into the net to tie the score.  The goal was Ladd's 1st of the year.  After the goal, Marshall continued to pressure the PN defense.  The pressure eventually paid off when Nyla Whittaker stripped a PN defender of the ball and stepped into a shot that overpowered the goalkeeper from outside the box.  The goal gave Marshall a deserved 2-1 lead.  Unfortunately for Marshall, they were unable to make it stand up, as PN scored on a goalmouth scramble after a corner kick with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

With the tie, Marshall's record moves to 8-7-1 on the season.

Marshall returns to action on Wednesday, 5/14, when they host Hastings for the final I-8 Conference game of the year.  Marshall will also be honoring its seniors that evening.
