5/10 Mona Shores Invitational

Game 1 Marshall 12, Zeeland East 4

In the first of three games Saturday, Bella Ryan homered twice and Brooke Carden once, with 8 RBIs combined. Brielle Kelly and Addison Carden each collected 3 hits and 2 stolen bases. Layne Churchill picked up the win going 3 innings and striking out 7. Gwen Beach also picked up the 100th hit of her career, joining Brooke Carden (149), Brielle Kelly (128), and Emmalie Hirst (116) in the 100 hit club. 

 

Game 2 Marshall 19, Montague 1

Claire Kelly and Addison Carden combined to throw a 1 hitter with 6 strikeouts in the 3 inning mercy rule game. Bella Ryan, Layne Churchill, and Brooke Carden collected multiple hits. 

 

Championship Game Mona Shores 10, Marshall 5

Things got away from us a little in the championship game. With Layne Churchill pitching, we took a 3-0 lead early but couldn’t hang on. Mona Shores scored 3 runs in the third, tying the game. Then put up 5 runs in the pivotal 5th inning. A couple unlucky bounces helped load the bases for Mona Shores with no one out. They ran a designed trick play, getting the first base runner in a run-down, helping to score the runner on third. We failed to execute and allowed all runners to move up. We were unable to get a couple big outs after that, and it was 8-3. Trailing 10-3 in the 7th, Brielle Kelly led off with a double. Addison Carden ripped a line drive to the right side, and just like most of the game, it was right to their second baseman. We got two runs pushed across to make it 10-5 but that was it.
